Just because fall is here doesn’t mean the excitement at Harbourfront is over! There is still a full lineup of great events to check out by the water that will keep you occupied until the snow comes. Here’s what we’re looking forward to checking out this fall on the Harbourfront.
Food For Thought Visual Arts Exhibition
This new exhibition is running from September 26th to December 24th, which leaves you lots of time to check it out. Artwork from 27 different artists will be showcased, all of which speak to the complexity of food be it through design, photography, or visual arts. One tip – don’t check this exhibition out when you’re hungry.
Make Your Own Glass Pumpkin
It doesn’t get any more seasonal than this! On October 24th the Glass Studio at Harbourfront is hosting a glass-blowing workshop where you can make your own glass pumpkin for Halloween. No experience necessary.
Word On The Street Book and Magazine Festival
If you’re a bookworm, this will be right up your alley. This festival brings together the best in the business to share their love of all things word-related. Happening on September 27th, the festival is free to attend and you’ll have access to around 200 Canadian authors, discussion panels, a poetry slam, and the biggest outdoor bookstore you’ll ever see (over 200 vendors!).
Canoe & Paddleboat Rides on the Natrel Pond
Until October 11, you can still go for a float on the Natrel Pond down on the Harbourfront boardwalk – it’s the perfect 15-minute break. The pond is open every evening during the week and all day on the weekend, and you can choose to rent a canoe for $4 or a paddleboat for $5.
International Festival of Authors
Another one for the bookworms – the International Festival of Authors (IFOA) is happening from October 22 to November 1. The festival brings poets, playwrights, short story writers, biographers, and novelists all together in one place. You can choose to attend readings, interviews, or round table discussions, and you might just stumble across your new favourite author.
Learn to Skate at the Natrel Rink
If you’ve already dreamed about being the next Wayne Gretzky, you need to start somewhere. Harbourfront offers a number of adult intro skating lessons starting in mid-November. Classes are weekly and run for an hour – you’ll be showing off your moves to your friends in no time.
