While there’s so much to do in the city, sometimes you just need to escape and take a day trip. Winter is a great time to get outside and we’ve rounded up some of the best spots that are just a short drive from Toronto. Find out what made our list!

Skate on an Ice Trail
Hit the ice somewhere that’s a little more unconventional. There are a few provincial parks that have skating trails so you can take a scenic skate through the forest. Sounds pretty awesome, right? Check out the ice trail at MacGregor Point for starters.

Dogsledding
Did you know that you can go dogsledding in the GTA? Hop in a car and head to Orillia to try this unique experience. They offer both half and full day trips and you get to be in charge of the sled. Their dogs are highly trained so you can trust them to take the lead. Get more details here.

Tobogganing or Tubing
Hit the hills in a toboggan or tube! There are some great hills outside of the city and it’s a great chance to check out some provincial parks that are a nice drive from Toronto. Check out one like Arrowhead, and be sure to bring your snow pants along.

Winter Hiking and Ziplining
Hit the trails in Elora, a beautiful village near the city. There are some trails along the gorge that offer some scenic views. Also, there’s winter ziplining! You’re also not far from town when it comes to warming up over a coffee or a good meal.

Stay Overnight in a Yurt
If you’re looking to stay the night somewhere, provincial parks offer Yurts that you can rent out. Stay somewhere off the beaten path and it’ll make for a pretty memorable weekend. Check out availabilities here.
